It's A Celebration

Next week is our 25th wedding anniversary and Brian has surprised me with a trip to Sanibel Island this weekend. Although I will be stressed about leaving up until I board the plane, I'm super excited for us to spend some quality time together and have some fun. It's hard to believe 25 years have gone by! It seems like a minute ago we were partying on LSU's campus without a care in the world...oh wait...we did that a few months ago. That must be the secret...laugh everyday, treat each other with respect, and have fun.

So on that note, when I think about celebrating I think about an amazing bar space. It doesn't have to be big, it could be set up on top of a chest or tucked into an armoire but I think every house ought to have an adult party station. I love looking at vintage bar accessories and you can find interesting (by that I mean non matching) glasses, stemware, and decanters at thrift shops. Here are some of my favorites:

High-Low

I have a dear friend with 4 amazing children and every night at dinner they would play the High-Low game. One person would start and tell the table what was their "high" of the day and what was their "low" and then pass it on to the next person. It was a great way of sharing the good and the bad of each person's day and if you are a guest for dinner, you have to play as well. So we are going to play the game tonight:

A Super Bowl

This post is not about "The" Super Bowl, although the Saints should have been in this one, it's about "A" super bowl that I found on a scavenger hunt with Brandy from the blog http://cha-gogo.blogspot.com/. We started out a City Farmhouse and found this amazing bowl for $10!

I am a sucker for anything with gold on it and when I turned it over it had Italy written on it.

Don't know what that means but I thought it was interesting. The bowl for now sits on the dining room table waiting for me to find my bag of Mardi Gras beads so I can fill it with some purple, green and gold trinkets. For now it is holding some antlers.

Now I will tear my house up looking for a massive bag of beads so my yard can get in the spirit of Mardi Gras season and my neighbors can think I have lost my mind. First parade of the season, Krewe De Vieux, was this weekend back home so I'm behind. Happy Monday!

An Insane Week

From Wednesday on it has been like the amazing race around here. Mother loved going to pottery class with me and as soon as I put a hunk of clay in front of her, she went to town.

That is her getting mad at me.

I stayed clear of the wheel and hand built with mom and she kicked my butt...I clearly did not get these genes. After class the race began. Groceries for her then off to Vanderbilt for 3 hrs of heart testing. The rest of the week found us at more hospitals, doctor's offices, and of course she needed her hair done. I am tired of driving Miss Daisy around and just want not be in the car for the rest of the weekend.

High Hopes

I already know this is going to be a stellar week for me because as I was in the drop off lane at Goodwill yesterday, the car in front of me pulled this out of the back of their SUV

It was so perfect and beautiful, but being fresh out the car, it wasn't priced so back I will be today!

You can't just drop off, you must go in, so walking back to the furniture department I spy this

I had a hard time getting a good shot of this due to fact that it was so close to the shoe racks and I almost took out one whole row of shoes just to get this, but I love this piece! It would be amazing lacquered in white and would be great either in a bedroom, dining room or office.

With this kind of luck I am sure to conquer the pottery wheel tomorrow. I'm bringing mother with me so we will see how that goes. She may end up being either a source of inspiration or frustration. I will try to take pics of the dynamic duo.

Friday, Flea and Me

Friday kicked off flea market weekend here in Nashville and I had the privilege of spending it with 3 amazing women, Kathy from http://myinteriorlife.blogspot.com/, Collyn from http://modfrugal.com/, and Brandy partner in crime. Flea Market this time of year is always a little disappointing but we still managed to find some interesting pieces:

For me this was the highlight of the day but at $350 a piece I had to walk away

The "Me" part of this post:

People start these blogs for many reasons, mine was therapy. I grew up in Baton Rouge, went to nursing school, met my husband, got married, had kids and thought life was all figured out. I had a fantastic job working with an obgyn that I respected. I had that job for 15 yrs and I was really good at it. Then my husband gets a job promotion and we have the opportunity to move to Dallas. As a family we made the decision to do it. I would quit work, move my mother with us and start a new chapter in all our lives. It was terrifying for me because it meant, or felt like, I was losing my identity. Brian started his new position, kids adjusted to new schools and I was left to figure out how to be a house wife and deal with an elderly mother 24/7. I never was one of those women that wanted to be a stay at home mom. I loved working and this was torture. Why didn't I get a job? My husband travels all the time. My mother has a laundry list of health problems and is completely dependent on me. With no friends or family to rely on, I couldn't just go to a job everyday and leave mom or the kids. Three years later we move again, this time to Nashville. Same scenario, Brian traveling, kids adjusting to new schools , one child pissed and rebelling, and mom in tow. At this point I have totally lost a sense of self and am not in a good place. I am angry, sad, and feeling guilty because I am so blessed. I'm tired of having to deal with a totally dependent parent, tired of being a maid and just want my old life back.

I started going to a therapist, made some friends and made the decision to give myself a job. Something for me that I had to do everyday that didn't involve cleaning, running to the pharmacy or grocery store, but something that I would enjoy. I have always loved design blogs and thought, why not, I could do this. So with the help of my son, I started. I didn't tell anyone. It was my secret and only for me. One year later I have made friends and feel like a belong to a community. I don't care if I have 1 or 100 followers, this is just a diary of my sometimes crazy, sometimes sad, wonderful full of love life that occasionally involves trips to the goodwill. I am truly blessed and am looking forward to this chapter in life.

I Fought The Wheel And The Wheel Won

Yesterday was my third pottery class. I went in with the attitude that I was going to kick that wheel's ass and make Jonathan Adler look silly...I was wrong. The wheel and I clearly don't get along and I would take pics of my 6 yr old looking bowl but I was covered in clay to the point that I could not handle a camera. I even managed to have my face splattered with the stuff. So I banished myself to the hand building area and made a sad tray. Clearly I missed out on this gene and am never going to be allowed in that pool...lessons or no lessons...I suck....my class fee should be refunded and I should walk away with my tail between my legs. But I won't. I will finish this and move on.

On a lighter note, my partner in crime and I went to check out a CL find and she scored on this amazing Baker champagne colored sofa from at least 1970. It obviously was never sat on because it is pristeen!

This house was quintessential mid century down to that lovely orange rug. But one of the best features was this flocked red wallpaper in the dining room which also sported that same carpet:

I wish I could have gotten better shots but the guy we were buying the sofa from was standing right there and it was a little awkward . I know he thought we were whack jobs when we started feeling the dining room walls and whipping out cameras. Now I want flocked wallpaper in my life somewhere...you can't help but touch it.

I pass her up because these crazy people have her priced at $49.99....I didn't pay that much for my second dog Brees.

Move Over Jonathan Adler...There's A New Potter In Town

So today was my second pottery class and it was a million times better than the first. The wheel and I did not get along last week but this week we worked on hand building and this is where I clearly need to stay. I loved it and would be fine never to play with that wheel again but next week we are back on it and I plan to kick it's ass before it kicks mine. I'm in awe of what can be created with something so simple as clay and the colors of glazes are spectacular so I can't wait to get to that stage. The people in these classes are an interesting bunch and they bring baked goods which is a huge plus.
I need inspiration so I went straight to Jonathan Adler and what he makes out of hunks of clay is mind blowing. It's good to have goals but I think I'll stick to bowls and dishes.

You Should Be Ashamed Of Yourself

All decorators/interior designers of doctor's offices should be ashamed of themselves! As I sit in the walk-in clinic of Vanderbilt with my daughter this morning, I find myself in complete disgust with medical waiting room decor. Why? Why does it have to be this way. I was an OBGYN nurse for 15 yrs. and a mom of 2 so I have seen my fair share of medical facilities and I have never sat in a waiting room and felt comfortable or relaxed. This is a missed opportunity for those doctors/nurses to get people calmed the f down.

Let's start with color. Why some form of skin color beige. Nobody wants to feel like they are sitting in a band aid box and obgyn offices are the worst! Why always green/peach or pink/blue palette? This really pisses me off. If I don't feel good, I want cozy, warm, and comfortable. Not this:

Seating. Why so generic and stiff? If I have to sit for any length of time, I want to be comfortable.

Artwork. I don't want to look at mother's and children in meadows. Give me something that I can sit there and interpret for an hour or two.

Get the tv off of CNN of Fox News. I feel bad enough already.

Why not have a doctor's office look like a hotel lobby. Make me want to spend half my day there. Your patients won't complain about the wait, staff will be friendlier, and over all it could be a pleasant experience.
So designers....channel Kelly Weastler please!

4 Day Recap

Sunday:

The Crochet family is on the road by 10am headed for New Orleans to cheer on LSU. The outside of the car is full of LSU magnets and we are pumped up screaming "Tiger Bate" to every Alabama fan we pass. We arrive at Brian's mom's house late that afternoon and everybody goes to bed early.

Monday:

Face tattoos applied ,beer is on ice, catered food tray picked up, on the way to find a parking spot close to the quarter and the dome. 1 1/2 hrs. later we park, open the back of the car...time to party. 3 beers later I have to urinate. The best option I feel is the high school next to our $50 parking space. They had just let out and there were a bunch of kids hanging around. I walk up to one and ask if he can get me in. He tries to bang on the doors, which are locked because it's downtown NO. I notice that he has a certain beer company's key chain hanging out of his pocket, and I tell him my husband works for said beer company. He promptly introduces himself as Bennett and says he will get me in since that is his favorite beer. Great. 5 minutes later the captain of the dance team says Bennett got you in, go ahead. I am met at the door by a teacher who asks "can I help you?", I say "I'm with Bennett", she says go ahead. Sure it's fine that a tipsy 46 yr. old woman with face paint and mardi gras beads says she is with a 17 yr. old. I go pee and then we head for the quarter.

Of course there were the typical New Orleans freaks out and about:

These 2 women attached themselves to my husband, he is the one that looks terrified.

We finally get to Pat O's where Randy and Ann are on a balcony.

Time to walk to the dome:

Total chaos in a good way.

Go in and lose. Don't want to discuss it.

Leave dome and Brian says "I'm pissed and I want to go home now" and that is what we did. We get to his mom's house by 12:15am, pack up our stuff and was on the road to Nashville by 12:30am. We pull in our driveway at 7:00am and go to bed.

Tuesday:

Sleep till 1:00pm, shower go pick up the dogs. Go back to sleep.

Wednesday:

Start my first pottery class. I suck. I was told that I am a tactile learner so I will learn differently than the others. In other words I am the special needs kid in the class. I even cut my finger while on the wheel so my pot has blood mixed in it.
After class pick up mother who needs blood drawn and groceries. I just want to take a nap. Run by my house, let dogs out, get groceries, pick Emily up from school, go back to my house. Let dogs in and Emily yells out "where is all this blood coming from?". Beau the great dane had whacked his tale and opened up a spot on it so blood was arcing all over my kitchen. I have blood on the ceiling, walls, counters and on us. I get him out in the garage where I chase him around with duck tape, because that works in so many situations. Get him in the car and we go to the vet. Now I have no idea how much blood is on me...I don't really care at this point. By the look on the receptionist face, I must have looked like I was in a car accident or had been slashed by a serial killer. Beau's tale got wrapped up correctly and back home to clean the crime scene. Take mom back home, order chinese food and go to bed.

Thursday:

1:00am wake up in a pool of sweat and my chest feeling like an elephant has sat on me. Swig Nyquil and try and go back to sleep. I am now sitting here in my kitchen recording these events and seeing random spots of blood I missed yesterday.

One Crazy Lamp

Today I went looking for the perfect birthday present for my sister in law and brother in law and they both love vintage items. My sister in law loves vintage fashion and my brother in law loves vintage tools and architectural pieces so off I went to do a little junkin. I found the fashion item first. It's a Lou Taylor of Miami purse:

It was hard to find a complete story on this designer but he was known for the box shaped purse with the swivel mirror fixed inside the bag. She is going to love it.

My brother in law is getting a vintage dremel. He will also love me forever.

I love the tortoiseshell handle.

So as I was shopping I found this:

I love this floor lamp so much! It was definitely not a GW price but I think worth every penny in the right room. Every room should have a gold crazy statement lamp.

A Pair of Chairs

Tale of Two Offices

This month has been busy for everyone but as I sit here now at the end of it, I am in awe of what has taken place. Not only has my 1st born graduated from college, but my friend Brandy and I decided to form a design business and landed our first job. This being said, 2 "offices" have been designed. My son used his graduation money to build his own super computer that will hopefully design himself into independence, aka: out on his own, so an "office space" was needed to house this machinery. Four garbage bags later, some serious dusting and a trip to goodwill formed this space:

Now the situation is this:

The artwork is supposed to motivate and inspire.

Now for office space #2 that was a paying job. It was a space in an engineering firm on Music Row that needed to shuffle some personnel around and turn a small conference room into a usable space for their director of marketing. It was an interesting challenge for two people that typically pour over design mags featuring homes, but we faced this job like we would a home...think about form and function. This employee needed to access large binders and used multiple monitors on the desk so large desk space and open storage was key. However in any office there are always items that need to be concealed so closed storage is important as well. Keep in my that this is an engineering firm so the esthetic is clean and sleek.

We started out with a space that looked like this minus the credenza sans drawers:

Typical office carpet, red/orange feature wall, no natural light, dry eraser board, $1000.00 budget.

We had no time to change the "feature wall" color so we decided to use a complimentary color with it, turquoise, which happened to be in these amazing mid century modern chairs. Open storage was provided by the shelving above the desk and closed storage in the credenza. The painting picked up on the wall color and every room needs a great lamp.
All in all it was a great experience and am looking forward to what the new year brings.

Christmas is almost here and I am happy to say it's all done! I know we are only 3 days away but in my world that's huge. Every year at this time I tell myself I will start earlier next year, but I never do. I do actually plan my wrapping strategy early and this year I went with a hot pink theme, because what better color screams fun and excitement like pink?

Personal Christmas List

7. butt load of money to open my own store on 12th south so I can sell all of my finds

Go Big or Go Home

I think if you are going to do wallpaper in the foyer you should go big or go home. What I mean is the foyer is the part of your home that makes the first impression, so if you have the balls to hang wallpaper there, it should make a statement...because you know that's what you were trying to accomplish in the first place. Proud Mama

Last night was a very special night because my son Christopher graduated from O'More College of Design with a degree in Visual Communication. Not only does he have his diploma but his senior presentation was awarded 1st place and won an ipad. Family flew in for this and we could not be any prouder.

Now somebody hire the kid so I can turn his room into something cool.

It's Officially Winter

Well yesterday, in my mind, was the official start of winter because at 4am there was snow falling. It has been dark, cold, and slushy here which makes me want to rip off all my bedding and replace it with fur blankets. Now I am super peri menopausal and can barely sleep with a tank top and a sheet at night, but the look of these just makes me want to snuggle with a couple of cute dogs until the next hot flash occurs.

Debauchery: depraved over-indulgence

This word describes my Thanksgiving. Between eating at my sister in laws on Thursday and going to the LSU game on Friday, I don't know if I need to be detoxed or rehabed. My sister in law has 4 dogs and her family found an artist in Baton Rouge that will assist you in painting animal portraits. They are amazing and I can't wait to do this next time we are in town:

We then head to our best friends house. That usually means "let the games begin" but since LSU was scheduled for 1:30pm the next day, we made a mature decision and drank 1 bottle of wine and just 2 Jamison's and called it a night. 9:30am and we are at the tailgate party and Brian and Randy set up an omelet/pancake station:

The game was AMAZING and we are without a doubt #1

After several hours of post game tailgating, we head back to Randy and Ann's house for cooking the traditional grilled ham and cheese sandwiches with more cocktails of course.

I Would Be Insane For A Morrocan Wedding Blanket But I Have Tuition

With one child about to graduate college and the next one starting in the Fall of 2012, a vintage wedding blanket is not in the cards but a girl can dream. I think they are so amazing and Beau and Brees would never get on my bed again if I had one. I love the idea that these are hand sewn by the brides family members and act as a sort of talisman to ward off evil spirits and we just had a money dance at my wedding.

A Dream Come True

A Win Win Situation

What an amazing weekend I had. Daniel's wedding in Savannah was beautiful and they looked so happy. Being married almost 25 years, it's hard to remember that sense of excitement about starting your life together but I think this pic sums it up

Probably the best part of this wedding was a photo booth. Our family took that over. I want one in my house or at least at the next party I throw.

Starting today this weekend will be insane. We are leaving at noon for Savannah. My sweet nephew is getting married tomorrow night and the whole family is heading down. There is some huge marathon going on there this weekend so we had to rent a beach house on Tybee...tragic huh? So the bride is from New Jersey and her family has never been exposed to a bunch of cajun coon asses at a family wedding so this should be fun. We plan on doing a second line at some point so I'm sure her mother will either 1. love it or 2. get pissed.

Preservation Station

Today Melanie called and asked me if I wanted to go with her to a store in Nashville called Preservation Station to find a back plate for a vintage doorknob that she had found at the flea market. The front of their house has double doors and needed to be replaced so they put up new plain doors, embellished them with molding in a mid century pattern, and painted them a soft turquoise blue. All this knob needed was a mate and this place did not disappoint. If you are in the market for vintage architectural pieces, this is the place to go.

The girl behind the counter can tell you the make and year of each of these and they range from $15-$35. I now want to change out every single knob in my house.

I also want to replace all my floor grates for different colored ones.

The doors in this place were unbelievable and prices range from $85-$6000 but what a difference it would make in a house, especially when you are living with builder grade hollow door crap.

You can't even believe how enormous this door is and the workmanship would blow your mind. Now if I had $5000 to blow...this baby would be coming home with me.

If you are ever on 8th avenue and want to look at real craftsmanship that is like art for your home...go there and be inspired.

Better Late Than Never

I did check out a few estate sales around here Friday, but with developing Death Valley in my front yard for Halloween, I haven't had a chance to take pics and post. It was of course rainy and cold Friday morning as I set out to Brandy's house at 6:15 am. We race over to get in line, confidant that we will be at least 6th or 7th. We pull up in front and there is nobody anywhere. We assume the sale has been cancelled because surely a dealer or two would be here for a certain lucite coffee table that was advertised. We put our bags down and claimed spot 1 and 2, then sat in the warm car till 8:00. Finally at 8:15 people start coming and when the doors were opened that amazing table was ours.

It now resides in Brandy's bedroom sitting area which is awaiting the David Hicks wallpaper to be applied behind the sofa and up the slanted wall.

We also scored 6 retro coffee cups, a lucite tray, and a painting.

Then it was on to the next estate sale. This place on the outside looked like Hansel and Gretals house but inside was a completely different story. We did find an amazing mirror that might just get a hit of high gloss lacquer paint after a good cleaning.

All in all we scored some fantastic finds and earned a really hot shower.

Death Valley

We have been busy bees around here creating "Death Valley" in our front yard. For those of you that are not familiar with what this means, it is the name of LSU stadium and since the game of the century is this weekend, we thought it would be super appropriate. Christopher was in charge of the pumpkin and if he can't find a job in graphic design, he could always go into the pumpkin carving biz:

So today will be installation of the graveyard, lighting and large spray painted sign saying "Welcome To Death Valley" with the fight song on continuous play. Back In The Saddle Again

Thank you to all my friends who have loved and supported us during this REALLY difficult time but I am back now and ready to roll. Friday morning I was in Brandy's driveway focused on getting to the Nashville Flea Market. I don't know if you remember some large orange plexiglass circles we found a few weeks ago...well they are now in her foyer against a stunning fushia pink lacquered wall

possibly the coolest thing ever!

So we head out to the flea market armed with caffeine and cash.

This amazing fixture was removed from a house built in 1952. It will now reside in Brandy's mid century modern home in her kids bathroom.

A Day In The Life

I know so many people are jealous of this "Insanely" fantastic life that I have so I thought I would give you a play by play on how this day is going:

6:50am Emily's ride for school is a no show so I grab my purse and cup of coffee, slip on some flip flops, find a cardigan to cover my boobs because I have on a thin nightgown and race out the door.

7:15am Arrive back home, make sure no neighbors are outside, grab purse and empty coffee mug, walk up to my house and fall. The contents of my purse go flying one way and my ass is everywhere. I leave chunks of my knee on the sidewalk and get inside with no dignity.

8:00 Out the door, very carefully, to meet Kathy at an estate sale. Great time with her as always but didn't score at the sale.

9:00 Dropped off a nightgown for my mom, who promptly looked me up and down and asked me why I was wearing a shirt with a hole in it? At least that hole is not as big as the one on my right knee! She then feels the need to have me check her blood pressure and pulse 10 times. I ask if we need to see the cardiologist and she says "No...I'm sure my heart will just stop and that will be it" Fantastic

11:00 I head home...BP and pulse are fine

11:30 Arrive home, walk in carefully. Let dogs out and start sweeping up dog hair

12:00 I'm disgusted and leave for the GW and find this

Nobody could give me the story behind these...desks? I'm not sure what they were originally used for but I can see them in several applications...bedside tables, vanity, lined up as a console, or obviously a desk. I love the graphic lines of the curves and the glossy white on top. Although I am definitely a color fan, there is something classic about black and white.

Making The Rounds

Wednesday night the girls and I went to Best of Nashville sponsored by Nashville Scene at the Parthenon. The Scene has a contest every year that establishes the "best" in every catagory around town. From the best Italian food to the best bartender. With that being said, the girls and I ate till we were wishing we had our fat pants on. But expanded waists did not keep us from the dance floor. They had an amazing '80's band playing so at least we got some exercise and worked off maybe one mini cupcake.

So after recovering from my diabetic coma, the next day I head over to East Nashville in search of the perfect gift for my sister. She is a potter so I knew I wanted something handcrafted and unique. My first stop was Art and Invention gallery which was closed but next door is the greatest little community of shops that are so unique.

This shopping village could not be any cuter. So I went in a store called Alegria and they had the greatest array of items in there. From Hobo bags and wallets to these adorable paper lanterns

The sales girl was loads of help and I found the perfect piece of jewelry that will suit my sis.
You can have a mall full of stupid generic crap....I would rather shop like this.

1. Bought a car

Trash To Treasure

My father in law has been transferred from Tulane Medical to a long term care facility and the goal is to get him home. Brian and his sisters have decided to give his parents an early Christmas gift which is to makeover their master bedroom so he will have a fresh new space to come home to. Brian went in this past weekend to start this process and the room has been emptied, painted, and flooring goes in today. He came home with 2 glass front cabinet doors that were found in his grandfather's barn and his mother wants us to do something with them so she can incorporate them in the room.

They are in pretty rough shape but I love that there is a keyhole in the frame and my idea is to refinish the wood and replace the glass with mirror. Since there are 2 of them I thought we could hang them on either side of the bed behind the bedside lamps. This bedroom has only 1 window and she chose grey as her wall color so reflecting the lamp light would really bounce some needed light around.

This weekend along with the Flea Market was the TACA Fall Craft Fair at Centennial Park. My favorite potter was there again, Anderson Bailey, so I had to grab another piece of his to add to the one I have.

Friday Finds

7:45 am I was standing in the drizzle, in line, with the girls at an estate sale. This place was a time capsule and when the doors opened at 9:00 it was a feeding frenzy. We formulated a plan of splitting up in 3 different directions, each of us armed with sold stickers and bellies full of starbucks for rocket fuel. When the door opened and we stepped into the foyer, it was like angels were singing...the wallpaper was amazing! Very Florence Broadhurst. So after a few minutes this woman walks by with a roll of it in her hand. Brandy, who really wanted to somehow remove the paper that was up, was devastated. How could she miss that? Melanie comes walking up with a fab dress and hands it to me along with an adorable purse and says that those look like me. The woman with the roll of paper comments on the dress and I ask "How about we trade?" After a few seconds she agrees and I hand over the roll to Brandy who proceeded to attack me with hugs, kisses and tears. It was an epic girlfriend moment.

Today is my baby girl's 17th birthday and she started the day with fever and sore throat. So a trip to the walk in clinic, negative strept test, and a big nap and she will be good to go to her fave sushi restaurant Wild Ginger tonight. This child entered the world in the most difficult way possible. The day started as a routine induction and 16 hours later, 5 epidurals (don't ask), general anesthesia, and a c-section produced the most beautiful baby that looked like a peach. Emily Ann always hated her hair because everyone wanted to touch her large amount of strawberry blonde ringlets and she wanted stick straight hair. To this day she is a slave to the flat iron and curses her genes. She is smart, quick witted, kind and doesn't tolerate people being cruel to others. She stands up for the kid that is different or maybe underprivileged and makes them feel like they belong. She never got caught up in clothing labels or wanting to feel trendy...she likes what she likes and screw everybody else. I'm so proud of her and the thought of her leaving next fall makes me want to crawl into bed and pull the covers over my head. Happy Birthday Madame Em...Mommy loves you!

Closet Case

Monday was a beautiful grey rainy day here in Nashville so for me that means turn on some music and clean out the closet. I don't have an enormous closet my any means but it is a walk in I share with the hubs and he is borderline ocd on his side which is great. I always dreamed of those closets that are more like dressing rooms, with actual furniture, seating, wallpaper, and amazing lighting.

Well, under those precious babies was destruction and mayhem. I didn't lose my mind because the quilt was only $35.00 from the sale area at Home Goods. So this weekend I ran to West Elm to look at replacement options. I used to think West Elm was a snooze fest but lately they have really stepped up their game. So I found this:

Completely not the direction I was going for but I have this vintage piece of fabric that hangs behind my bed that is royal blue and black and I love the way orange and blue compliment each other. I actually have orange in almost every room in my house so it made sense as far as flow. I like a bedroom that feels like it is full of things that have been collected over time. I like it dark, full of pillows and fabrics. Sort of like this:

Today my oldest child turns 22...hard to believe. To describe Christopher I would have to start off with talented. He will graduate in December with a degree in Visual Communications and I have no doubt he will go on to do great things. His love of typography is apparent in every project and his style makes him stand out from the rest. He is sweet, kind and loving. This is my child that cannot tell a lie. I would get a full on confession of what he did in school as soon as he hit the door when he was little. He also had every color cast there was due to the fact that he was all boy all the time. His sense of humor is infectious and his taste in music goes from Frank Sinatra to hard core metal. I am the luckiest mom in the world to have a son like him and I thank God everyday giving him to me.

These last few days have been like being in a tornado. Friday we pack up and leave for Baton Rouge to go to the LSU game:

We spent the weekend with our best friends from college who live in the most beautiful home. It is quintessential South Louisiana French Creole sexiness:

So after all the tomfoolary of Saturday night we always make our way back to their house, unload the car of all tailgating paraphernalia, make cocktails, and Randy starts on grilled ham and cheese sandwiches. It's a tradition that I hope never dies. Early Sunday morning Emily and I head home and Brian stays behind to spend time with his father who is still in Tulane Medical.

Monday morning is spent cleaning up from leaving a 21 yr old son in charge of 2 large dogs. Here is some dog porn to look at

After defunking my house I set out to a junk shop in downtown Franklin for a gift for my son's bday. He is my child that loves all things unusual and weird. Here some treasures that I found

I could see this in a bathroom with those purple and multi colored towels that have been advertised. It screamed Eat Pray Love. So I told myself tomorrow after taking Mom to the grocery store, I will run into Target and pick up a towel or two. Well apparently the entire town of Franklin had the same thought because as of 1:00pm the entire store had been annihilated by every housewife of all Missoni items. It was all gone. People are losers. I go home and try to pull up Target.com and I can't even do that because of all the losers in the world going crazy for this shit.

Oh well...tomorrow my child turns 22...I feel old as dirt...I'm going to make a cocktail

Missions Accomplished

My mission yesterday morning was to clean the s**t out of this house and that mission was accomplished so I headed over the GW to see what treasures await me and this was parked in the middle of the furniture section

It just needs some upholstery loven and this would be beautiful

Then I headed over to my fave junk shop by the railroad tracks and found these
